hi, Joanna’s friend.

I’m Rumi. If answering “What do you do?” is a struggle, I’m here to help.

This question is guaranteed to come up whenever you meet someone new, whether standing in the buffet line at a conference or attending your niece’s graduation party.

I suspect you feel invisible pressure to do the expected thing. So, you name your job title and company, followed by how long you’ve had your current role. Then, you cringe a little.

You’re locked in a confidence- and opportunity-stealing vicious cycle.

How would you like to get unstuck and give these conversations—and your life—forward momentum?

You can answer, “What do you do?” with such realness and intrigue that others lean in, wanting you to say more. Every time.

I work with clients like you one-on-one to craft their personal positioning language and make this scenario a reality.

My Secret Sauce

I aim to make every introduction going forward count—including those made on your behalf in a room you’re not in, where decisions about your future are made.

How do I get results?

  1. If you’re scarred from giving elevator speeches that didn’t land or dislike talking about yourself, you’ll learn to sound natural when you “sell.” You are brilliant. We’re not here to fix you. We’re here to redirect the conversation to what interests you in a way that makes others interested in you. (And then excitedly talk about you to others.)

  2. I’m obsessed with the power of words to unlock doors. Some doors open inwardly to reveal self-knowledge, and others open outwardly to connect you with someone at a deeper level. I firmly believe all those doors open up a sparkling future.

  3. I’m introverted. I also grew up moving back and forth between Japan and the United States, which did not help me fit in. On top of that, I was often the kid called in to translate adult conversations with language barriers. So, I’m an expert in social awkwardness and its remedies.

My Creds

After serving as the long-time editor of Joanna’s blog, I spent nearly two years editing her debut book, Tales of Potential. I am very, very well-versed in the magic of Joanna’s language and have honed my capacity to spot potential in others by working with her.

I’ve also served as a Joanna-certified Ambition Guide.

My writing has appeared in numerous publications, including the miniature essay, ‘Where Our Palms Touch,’ published in the Modern Love column in The New York Times.

How I Work With New Clients

I often start with a small package of Zoom sessions. We’ll craft an authentic response to “What do you do?” and develop a few strategic written variations to suit your most pressing needs. In the process, we’ll clarify your potential to solve problems for the kind of people you most enjoy collaborating with.

Our work can extend to crafting the About page on your website, creating a content strategy for LinkedIn, developing a signature talk, or other avenues where you teach people who you are and what you’re known for.

My introductory package starts at $1,499.

And I offer Joanna's friends the first 30-minute call at no charge.

Think we might be a good fit for each other?
